ARGENTINA: Kirchner pressured to tackle Menem-era corruption

The government of President Néstor Kirchner has come under pressure to revoke the "secret laws" that permitted the corruption prevalent during the two terms of former president Carlos Menem. The pressure is being brought to bear by the political opposition and social organisations after Marí­a Julia Alsogaray, a former environment minister under Menem, was released from jail on 11 May, 21 months after she was convicted on corruption and embezzlement charges.
