Mercosur summit deepens malaise

The 28th Mercosur summit in Asunción on 19-20 June did nothing to resolve the fundamental disagreements within the trade bloc. Even the meeting's major achievement - a joint development fund to reduce the wealth gap between the haves (Brazil and Argentina) and the have nots (Paraguay and Uruguay) - is being regarded with suspicion.
