ARGENTINA: Indigenous communities make their presence felt

Argentina's indigenous communities, in the north-central province of Chaco and the north-western province of Jujuy, made a concerted effort to win back some of their ancestral lands in late July and early August. Twelve Toba Indian leaders staged a month-long hunger strike, from 21 July, in the Chaco provincial government building; some 1,200 Kolla Indians in Jujuy erected roadblocks and staged a protest march between 8 and 10 August.
