BRAZIL: Right in crisis while support for Lula surges

The results of the most recent opinion polls reveal that support for President Lula da Silva is increasing as the October presidential election gets closer. Meanwhile backing for the candidacy of his main rival, Geraldo Alckmin, is declining, prompting his rightwing coalition to fall into a new crisis. As this happens, the outspoken socialist candidate, Heloí­sa Helena, is winning support from the conservative Brazilian electorate with an increasingly aggressive stance on corruption.
