Lula wins second chance

Following a surprise run-off vote, President Lula da Silva was finally re-elected on 29 October. Lula's re-election victory, however, came at a cost. Analysis of the election results reveals a portrait of a divided Brazil, (see pdf file) and much of the controversy Lula courted throughout the campaign could well return to haunt him.
