Chile's dependency on foreign oil and gas supplies is an issue of national security, according to the head of the Chilean army, General Oscar Izurieta. The general was speaking after gas supplies from Argentina were interrupted yet again, this time by a strike affecting several gas fields in the Argentine provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro, Chubut and Santa Cruz. Over a 48-hour period from 16-17 November, all gas supplies from Argentina to Chile were cut.
