Brazil & Southern Cone - November 2006 (ISSN 1471-4431)

Economic overview

Economic activity grew by 1.6% in September compared with August, the Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Económica y Social (CERES) reported. This means that the economy has now grown, month-on-month, for three years and 11 months. The biggest factor on growth, according to Ceres, is the strength of external demand. What is significant is that the demand is broad-based: Ceres said that 89% of the variables it tracks moved in a positive direction in September. The strong growth in September points to a positive conclusion to the year and a decent start to 2007.
