The sudden resignation of President Vicente Fox's private secretary and spokesman, Alfonso Durazo, was quite explicitly aimed at derailing any hopes Fox's wife, Marta Sahagún, may have of running for the presidency in 2006. It exacerbated the anti-Sahagún campaign in which all political parties, as well as many of Mexico's leading pundits, have been engaged for some time.
