ARGENTINA: Kirchner heads government challenge

Less than a month remains until mid-term congressional elections on 28 June, which are likely to deny President Cristina Fernández of a majority in one or both houses of congress. As expected, Fernández's husband, predecessor and main political strategist, Néstor Kirchner, is heading the government's list of candidates for the lower house in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina's most important electoral district. At stake is Fernández's political authority, and Kirchner's future presidential ambitions.
