On 14 January President Sebastián Piñera conducted his first cabinet
reshuffle since taking office in March 2010. Four ministers left the
cabinet. Piñera has replaced a moderate and a couple of technocrats with
politicians. The two highest profile arrivals are Andrés Allamand, who takes
over from Jaime Ravinet, a former opposition politician, as defence minister,
and Evelyn Matthei, who becomes labour minister, replacing Camila Merino.
Probably the most important change, however, is the expansion of Laurence
Golborne's responsibilities. He now adds the energy ministry to his mining
responsibilities. End of preview - This article contains approximately 956 words.
