CHILE: Piñera's first reshuffle

On 14 January President Sebastián Piñera conducted his first cabinet reshuffle since taking office in March 2010. Four ministers left the cabinet.  Piñera has replaced a moderate and a couple of technocrats with politicians. The two highest profile arrivals are Andrés Allamand, who takes over from Jaime Ravinet, a former opposition politician, as defence minister, and Evelyn Matthei, who becomes labour minister, replacing Camila Merino. Probably the most important change, however, is the expansion of Laurence Golborne's responsibilities. He now adds the energy ministry to his mining responsibilities.
