CHILE: Lavín rises

One of the fascinating findings of the Adimark poll was the popularity of the education minister, Joaquín Lavín. Lavin is one of Piñera's many right-wing rivals, hailing from the Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI). Lavín's popularity, second only to Laurence Golborne, the mining and energy minister, is largely due to his success in steering an education reform through both houses of congress.
