CHILE: Laví­n rises

One of the fascinating findings of the Adimark poll was the popularity of the education minister, Joaquí­n Laví­n. Lavin is one of Piñera's many right-wing rivals, hailing from the Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI). Laví­n's popularity, second only to Laurence Golborne, the mining and energy minister, is largely due to his success in steering an education reform through both houses of congress.
