Generals' dismissal puts spotlight on military

President Alvaro Uribe's decision on 27 April to sack four of his most senior generals was a strong but necessary response to dissent within the armed forces. However, the timing of the move was far from ideal, and it has called into question the effectiveness of Uribe's democratic security policy as a whole.
