Uribe to create new party
President Alvaro Uribe appears to be in the process of forming his own party ahead of the 2006 general election. The daily newspaper El Tiempo reported on 8 May that Uribe met the leaders of the eight different branches of his ruling alliance on 4 May at the presidential palace in order to discuss the idea. The president will meet the same Uribistas on 11 May in order to discuss the new party further.
