Fujimori spices up Chile-Peru dispute

Relations between Peru and Chile, traditionally tense, have deteriorated since fresh allegations in March that Chile sold arms to Ecuador during the 1995 war between Ecuador and Peru. The Peruvian government is almost certainly playing up the significance of the spat in order to divert attention away from its domestic woes. Intriguingly, Peru's exiled former president Alberto Fujimori, who was in power at the time of the war, dramatically entered the dispute on 4 May.
