Palacio pleads for time as unrest increases

As confidence in the new government begins to slide and the "outlaws" that ousted President Lucio Gutiérrez take to the streets once again, President Alfredo Palacio has pleaded with his countrymen to give him time. Whether the militants who surrounded congress in mid May will listen is doubtful. Although Palacio's proposals, based on the idea of "refounding the Ecuadorean nation", sound radical, many do not differ substantially from those put forward by his predecessor.
