Palacio sets out his plans

Despite the questionable grounds of Alfredo Palacio's mandate, Ecuador's new president has set out a bold agenda of reforms which he has called the "refounding of the Ecuadorean nation". While his ousted predecessor, Lucio Gutiérrez, continues to agitate for fresh elections from the US, Palacio made a number of television appearances in June in which he sought to encourage his fellow citizens to engage fully in the process of political reform.
