Relations with Colombia deteriorate after Farc attack

Relations between Ecuador and Colombia deteriorated this month after an attack by the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia on a Colombian army outpost near the border between the two countries left 22 soldiers dead. The Colombian government accused Ecuador of failing to patrol its side of the border; an accusation flung back by Ecuador, along with the threat of imposing visa restrictions on Colombians wishing to cross the border. Colombia responded by arguing that such a course of action would only impede economic development in the region.
