Frenzy to catch final visa-free flights to Spain

Airports in Cochabamba and Santa Cruz hosted chaotic scenes during the final few weeks of March as thousands scrambled to catch flights to Spain before a new European Union visa requirement for Bolivian citizens was implemented on 1 April. Brussels decided in December that, due to increased migratory pressure, Bolivia should be placed on the list of countries whose citizens need to acquire a visa before entering the territory of EU states.
