ECONOMIC OVERVIEW

Inflation is the big problem. In 2007 the rate was 11.7%, three times the original forecast. In 2006 inflation was 3.7%. In Consumer prices rose by 0.63% in December. Locoto, a local pepper much used in local cooking, was the food with the sharpest rise in price in December: it was up24%. Rice price jumped 4% and beef on the bone by 2.5%. The city with the highest inflation in December was Cochabamba where the local price index rose by 1.53%.
