Farc and Chávez pay price for prisoner farce

As a result of another month of fevered speculation, broken promises and finger-pointing, the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) has failed to release any of its hostages. However, the Farc's failure to abide by its commitment to hand over three of its captives before the New Year has sapped the guerrilla group's credibility and that of its preferred interlocutor, Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez . Other international leaders will now be far less blasé about involving themselves in the hostage crisis, which is just as Colombian President Alvaro Uribe wants it.
