Investigation into Chávez family corruption

On 28 April the attorney general opened an investigation into corruption allegations against two of President Hugo Chávez 's brothers. Two public prosecutors will look into the case, which involves illicit property dealings. Evidence of corruption within the president's family would be highly damaging for President Chávez , who prides himself on having purged Venezuela of a corrupt political ruling elite. The case also has a political bent, ahead of important local elections in November.
