Fujimoristas enter rights row

On 27 April the government published a controversial decree cancelling the presence of 64 NGOs at the state's National Council of Human Rights, including the Asociación Pro Derechos Humanos de Perú (Aprodeh). The decree was signed by President Alan Garcí­a, prime minister Jorge del Castillo and justice minister Rosario Fernández. It coincided with an announcement by the Peruvian agency of international cooperation that they would begin investigations into Aprodeh in May. Francisco Soberón, the NGO's director, fears this decision could give rise to a witch-hunt for anyone with alleged links to terrorism.
