Hunger in Peru

On 30 April more than 1,000 women took to the streets of Lima to protest against rising food prices. The women chanted "The pot is empty, Garcia!" as they banged their empty pots and pans. Hundreds of thousands of Peru's population rely on eating halls subsidized by the government; demonstrators claim that the subsidies need to increase by 30% or people will start to starve.
