The recent WikiLeaks release of US diplomatic cables sent by the ambassador to Peru, James Curtis Struble, to Washington detail how the then minister of the economy in Alejandro Toledo's government (2001-2006) and the current presidential candidate for the right-wing Alianza del Gran Cambio, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK), was “an influential government ally in a position that is willing to tackle the lawlessness issue in mining communities".
