US court convicts killer of Archbishop Romero

A US court last week convicted one of the men who killed Salvadorean Archbishop Oscar Romero in March 1990, former airforce Captain Alvaro Rafael Saravia. As this was a civil action, Saravia was sentenced, not to prison, but to paying US$2.5m compensation and US$7.5m in punitive damages. The case has provoked mixed reactions in both El Salvador and the US.
