ECUADOR: Impeachment ball starts rolling

Four opposition parties of widely differing persuasions have buried their differences to produce a single petition for the impeachment of President Lucio Gutiérrez on a charge of misappropriation of public funds. They have more than enough votes to set the proceedings in motion, but are still short of the 67 they need to vote Gutiérrez out of office.
