CHILE: Bachelet ousts Laví­n as 'most promising'

Headlines were made, and not only in Chile, by the news that an opinion poll put Socialist candidate Michelle Bachelet well in the lead in the forthcoming presidential race, almost doubling the voting preferences attracted by her rightwing rival, Joaquí­n Laví­n. The pollsters in question, however, are very close to the Socialists. Other surveys show Bachelet's position as very promising, but not yet there.
