SURINAME: Defiant Bouterse will run for president

Former dictator Desi Bouterse has decided to defy the 'veto' of his candidacy by the US and seek election as Suriname's next president. The opinion polls show him attracting the largest share of voter preferences, ahead of former president Jules Wijdenbosch and the present incumbent, Runaldo Venetiaan. This, however, does not guarantee that he will win.
