MEXICO: Warring 'cartels' still able to strike at prisons

Indignation among Mexican officials over US 'exaggerations' about drug-related violence has muted over the past two weeks, after drug 'cartels' sprung two high-profile prisoners from jail and a weekend spree of inter-gang fighting left 12 dead across four states and the capital. The government's response has been yet more prisoner transfers and the announcement of a new 'élite' force to ensure full control over the prisons.
