BRAZIL: From corruption scandal to political crisis

What started out as a corruption scandal with political ramifications has turned into a political crisis, with another of President Lula da Silva's coalition partners, the Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB), on the verge of withdrawing from the government. The principal player in this development was the leader of the PTB, congressman Roberto Jefferson, who was accused in the earlier scandal and last week became the accuser against the ruling Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT).
