HONDURAS: After debt deal, corruption next task

Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodrí­guez, a runner for the papacy earlier this year, said that the government's next target after securing its debt reduction deal was to tackle corruption. Rodrí­guez argued that the debt deal, under which US$3bn of Honduran debt is wiped off, will produce little in the way of lasting economic benefits unless the government does something about corruption. He noted that 80% of Hondurans still live in poverty.
