HONDURAS: After debt deal, corruption next task

Cardinal Oscar Andrés Rodríguez, a runner for the papacy earlier this year, said that the government's next target after securing its debt reduction deal was to tackle corruption. Rodríguez argued that the debt deal, under which US$3bn of Honduran debt is wiped off, will produce little in the way of lasting economic benefits unless the government does something about corruption. He noted that 80% of Hondurans still live in poverty.
