PERU: Better than ok

The only clouds over the economy are the riots at BHP Billiton's Tintaya mine, which closed at the end of May. The protesters are demanding that the company spend more money on social projects in the locality. The company argues that it already had agreements in place to invest more in the social infrastructure around Tintaya. The company implies that radicals have upped the ante by demanding that the company should pay for a new road to Arequipa, the local big town.
