PANAMA: Social security reform halted

The government allowed congress to suspend its social security reforms, which it pushed through congress at the end of May, on 5 July. The suspension will last for 90 days and is the result of the opposition of trade unions to the changes the government imposed. The Frente Nacional por la Defensa de la Seguridad Social had been on strike for a month, until 27 June, in protest at the change.
