The Venezuelan model

Latin America's apparent swing to the left has titillated academics and prompted them to start speculating about whether an alternative to so-called Washington Consensus is emerging. The Washington Consensus emphasised trade liberalisation, privatisation and orthodox macro-economic policies. There is little evidence to suggest that it benefited the bulk of Latin Americans.
