ARGENTINA: Worrying signs

The most buoyant sectors of the economy are the motor industry, where output is up by about 21% in the first quarter, and the construction industry, where cement production is up by 22%. In the first quarter overall industrial output was up by 7.1%. The textile sector, by contrast, is up by 6%, but the synthetic fibres sector, where Argentina once dominated the southern cone, is still contracting, down by 4.7% in the first quarter.
