CHILE: IMF forecasts 5.5% growth

The IMF is forecasting that the economy will grow by 5.5% in 2006 after growing by 6.3% in 2005. So far the new government, which took office at the beginning of March, has done little. To be fair there is little pressure on it to shake economic policy up. With copper prices going over US$3 a pound, on 21 April, the government's fiscal position is strong. The government had been budgeting on a copper price of US$1.70 per pound for 2006.
