URUGUAY: Difference over current account

The central bank published current account figures for 2005 in mid-April. Essentially, the current account is still in balance. There was a modest deterioration from a surplus of US$44m in 2004 to a deficit of US$88m in 2005. This is roughly half a percentage point of GDP. The main reason for the switch from surplus to deficit in 2005 was that imports grew faster than exports.
