Telefónica wins in Colombia

Telefónica de España paid US$368m to take control of the state owned Colombian telecoms company, Colombia Telecomunicaciones. Telefónica bid US$18m more than Carlos Slim Helú, the richest Latin American, who used his recently acquired Venezuelan telecoms company, CANTV, to bid in association with another of his companies, Teléfonos de México.
