IMF talks `get technical'. The first round of talks between an IMF mission and the Kirchner government has ended inconclusively, with the chief IMF spokesman, Thomas Dawson, dodging all attempts to elicit an assessment of progress made, and his colleague Francisco Baker denying reports that the Fund had agreed to extend a payment coming due on 9 September. John Taylor, the US Treasury's undersecretary for international affairs, has come up with a more upbeat view: the negotiation is `moving along really well' and has gone into `a more technical' phase. He reckons that a deal can be reached before the payment is due.
