ENVIRONMENT: Colombia: Environmental damage costs more than war

A report from the World Bank, published at the end of October, claimed that environmental degradation costs the Colombian economy more than the government spends on the long-running internal conflict. The World Bank puts the costs of environmental damage at Col$7 trillion pesos (US$2.9bn) a year. The military budget for 2006 stands at Col$5.4 trillion.
