VENEZUELA: Inflation rears

Inflation is beginning to rise at an uncomfortably high rate. In January, the benchmark índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) de Caracas, rose by 2%. This increase was well above the 1.8% rise in December. The 4% rise in food prices in January has prompted the government to mull over another anti-inflationary shock programme.
