CHILE: Central bank raises rates

At its monthly meeting on 12 July the board of the Banco Central de Chile raised interest rates by 0.25 of a percentage point to 5.25%. This followed a disappointing inflation figure for June of 0.9%. This was almost double what independent economists had expected and brought the 12 month inflation rate to 3.2%, a bit beyond the central bank's target of 3% for 2007.
