DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: FDI booms

Foreign investment is the key element in financing the current account deficit. According to central bank figures foreign direct investment in 2007 came to US$1.698bn. In the first quarter of 2008, again on central bank figure, FDI increased by 177%, year-on-year, to US$1.057bn and remittance flows are important.
