METALS: Protesters take a police general hostage in mining royalty protests

Ten days of violent protests to back demands for mining companies to make higher payments to local governments finally appeared to end in Moquegua on 18 June. At its height, the protesters seized 60 police officers and their general and threatened to hang them.
