HONDURAS: President Lobo gets budget approved, as IMF signals support

Congress finally approved a L122bn (US$6.42bn) budget for 2010 in early April. The dominant ruling Partido Nacional (PN) also used its majority (71 of 128 seats) to approve a 'Fiscal Emergency Law' and a contentious package of tax reforms. Together, these measures should allow the IMF and other multilateral lenders to offer additional loans to the cash-strapped country this year.
