DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Mejí­a hits the re-election trail

It would appear that President Hipólito Mejí­a has not yet found time in his agenda to fit in the PRD presidium meeting that is meant to rule on his bid for reelection [WR-03-32]. On 19 August he openly launched his campaign to seek a second term in the elections due next year. The event, a tour of Santo Domingo neighbourhoods, did not augur well for his wishes: despite the efforts of his organisers, he was often mobbed by people protesting against the high cost of food and the constant power outages.
