ECUADOR: Bread prices rise

On 10 January the government agreed that basic bread (pan popular) prices should be fixed at US$0.12 per loaf. This is a rise of US$0.02 per loaf, more or less what the bakers had wanted. The government had originally hoped to limit the rise to one cent. The new price came into force on 11 January. The government hopes that the price will remain fixed for the rest of 2011.
