The Chilean government admitted yesterday that intelligence officers had stolen information from the Argentine consulate in Punto Arenas in the far south of Chile. President Ricardo Lagos has rung his Argentine counterpart Néstor Kirchner to offer his apologies for the incident, although Santiago has denied authorising the action.
