DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Political crisis mounts

Rocked by an economic and financial crisis, the Dominican Republic could have done without the growing political rift within the ruling Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD). With six months to go until presidential elections, the PRD is still hopelessly split over the selection of a candidate to run on the party ticket. At the weekend, two rival factions met to designate separate days for the party primaries.
